South West

In the South West the National Beach Safety Council is represented by the Devon & Cornwall Beach Safety Group.
Members between them have responsibility for beach activity across the whole of the Cornwall and Devon coastline which incorporates the best bathing and surfing beaches in the country!
The group work together as local authorites to provide a unified approach to beach management in the South West.
The current group chairman is Rolo Deards (Carrick DC) . Vice Chair is Roy Lawford ( Kerrier DC). A full list of members and representatives are available.
The groups' main objectives are listed below;
- Objectively and without prejudice, pursue and promote best practice in beach safety.
- Make recommendations to all agencies involved in the provision of beach safety.
- Make every endeavor to liaise directly with Local Authorities and provide updates and request feedback relating to the groups work.
- Make every endeavor to liaise directly with those official bodies and National Governing bodies that are directly involved in beach safety.
- Facilitate and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas relating to beach safety.
- Undertake to establish bench marks for best practice within the scope of best value to be made available to Local Authorities.
- Shall remain available to be consulted on technical and operational issues.
