Beach Safety : Advisory Group
The National Beach Safety Council has adopted the role of Beach Safety Advisory Group to the National Forum. The National Beach Safety Council was established in 1999 with only 14 members and the aim of producing a unified approach to the overall management of beach safety by adhering to the following objectives: -
- To promote and pursue good practice in beach safety on a national basis
- To provide a forum for the exchange of relevant ideas and information on beach safety
- To hold a National Beach Safety Conference
- To liaise with other bodies who have similar aims
- To be a contact point for best advice and technical information
It was decided that there was a need to consolidate Local Authorities as a single national voice in the UK. The Council comprises of Water Safety Officers from Local Authorities around the coastline and other relevant national organisations, for example Surf Living Saving Association, Royal Life Saving Society UK etc.
To date there are 132 members of the National Beach Safety Council and two meetings a year are held, at different venues across the country, one of which incorporates an AGM. The current chair of the council is Tony Jones of Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council.
